Topic: Inventory/barcode reader support for a retail location

I may be missing something, but here's a scenario I'd like to see addressed:

A retail store is using Tracmor to track their inventory.  The store is using standard UPC barcodes.  A truck drives up with hundreds of new inventory items.

What should happen is some sort of barcode scanning to simply scan all of the new items and update the inventory.  Instead, the user has to click through all sorts of buttons and controls and scan the barcodes.  Once a retail store sees this inventory update mechanism they will reject the product.

At the least some sort of support for an inventory import/update should be available.  Allow for a CSV file to be uploaded containing barcode, quantity, location.  If the inventory item exists, update the quantity; if the item does not exist, add the new inventory item.  If negative quantities are allowed, then a loose integration with a POS system would be possible.  The POS system could provide a CSV file with negative quantities used on a daily basis to update the inventory counts based on sales.

Re: Inventory/barcode reader support for a retail location

Have you used the portable interface by adding /portable to your tracmor URL? That interface is designed to be used on a portable bar code scanner with a web browser on it, or can be used on a laptop/netbook with a bar code scanner attached. This interface allows you to more easily restock quantities of inventory than the standard Tracmor interface.

Inventory import from CSV is a good idea. We will certainly consider adding that in the future.

Got Inventory? Get Tracmor.

Thank you for this advice.  I have not tried to use the portable interface; that was going to be a future question, so you killed two with one stone.

Great product by the way.
