Topic: How would I setup my Inventory?

First off, thank you for making this software. It is amazing. Second, I need help with my install. I'm not familiar with the Asset portion of the tracmor software. Baiscally this is what I want to do. I have items that have different SKUs and in different locations. I need tracmor to basically record inventory coming in, which location it is in, how many of what items I have in each location, stuff like that. I don't see myself using the asset management or am I missing something? Please let me know how I should be using it.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How would I setup my Inventory?

simply:

an asset is/can be uniquely identified using a serial no. or a bar-code.  these are items whose transactional history you might want to track individually, such as computers, tools or software licenses.

inventory items are more likely to be consumerable items, such as paper, pens or paper clips (e.g. 1 of 100, 2 or 100, 3 of 100) these might be items you would sell & then restock.

hope that helps. - hamish

I highly recommend checking out the video tutorials.

The Getting Started 1 tutorial is a good introduction that I think will answer your question.

Re: How would I setup my Inventory?

Thanks for your quick responses. Unfortunately I don't deal with bags and each of my bags are tagged with a barcode based on style number and color which then becomes it's own SKU. I looked at the video and I think best thing would be to load up my items as inventory rather than assets since they come in bulks. By treating the asset and inventory separate will I run across any problems? What I have come to understand is that what I really need is just the inventory part of tracmor it seems because all I have is inventory that exists in multiple quantities with a common barcode; along with the ability to track, receive, ship etc.

So if I'm to assume that all I need is the inventory part, not putting anything into assets would not cause a problem for me down the line correct? So far testing it hasn't so I'm assuming it won't? I hope my second post makes things clearer.

Re: How would I setup my Inventory?

You are correct in that the Inventory and Assets modules are independent and have no reliance on one another. In fact, you can simply disable the Assets module for your user roles if you don't use it, and you will no longer see the Assets tab in tracmor. For more information on how to do enable/disable modules in tracmor, check out the Getting Started 5 video tutorial.
