Topic: Ability to assigna a parent asset
You really need the child/parent relationship for assets so that you can say, hard drive A is in computer C, or that ram stick A is in laptop D.

We wholeheartedly agree, and this is one of our top feature priorities. We hope to have it added soon, and at that time we will be providing a new packaged download which will also include some other goodies we've been working on.
Justin,
Any ETA on a release date for the new features? I'm actually in the process of hiring a PHP/MySQL developer to add the features my company needs to be able to use it to track our assets. Namely the parent/child relationship, but also the ability to assign custom fields to a specific asset model instead of them showing up for every asset.
Unfortunately I can't give a solid ETA because priorities can change at any time based on customer needs. But my optimistic hope is to have parent/child in Tracmor within the next 2 months. The other feature you mentioned (asset custom fields specific to particular asset models) is not on our to-do list at all right now, though I can see the value in such a feature.
If you do pay to have features implemented, we would be happy to review them and consider adding them to the official release. This could not only benefit the community of Tracmor users, but also ease your upgrade path in the future as we provide new releases of Tracmor.
I'll be sure and submit any code back to you guys once we've implemented changes. We plan on integrating it with the open source vTiger CRM as well. (www.vtiger.com)

I work for a company that is in need of exactly what you described above. Tracmor would be far more useful for us if we had the ability to assign custom fields to specific assets. It is not useful, for example, to have "Processor Type" showing up as a custom field under the "Acer LCD Monitor" asset model... especially when Processor Type is a required field with a default value *grins*
Please keep me update on your progress as well; if you open the code for the tracmor community, that would be great, but if you choose not too, we'd still be interested in working with you.
Thanks!
Hi aloerch,
We've sent our specifications to our developer and we have an initial release date of March 4th for adding parent/child functionality as well as the ability to assign custom fields to only specific asset models. (i.e., an "Air Card HEX Number" would only apply to air cards, not to all asset models.)
I will definitely provide these changes here so that they are freely available. If any of you working for companies would like to contribute to the cause, please let me know how much you're willing to contribute and contact me directly. The total cost so far is around $1,500.
We will be adding features as needed to conform to our company's procedures, but I will provide all customizations back to the community and to Tracmor for implementation for future releases.
Just to update everyone on the status of this feature, we have completed the feature according to the specifications here, and this feature will be available in the new tracmor download that will be released some time next week. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
Hi,
I'm new to tracmor and I really like it. And here is my first question ![]()
I found the request for the feature "AssetModelSpecificCustomFields" in this post and here: "http://code.google.com/p/tracmor/wiki/AssetModelSpecificCustomFields". This is exactly the feature I need to use tracmor. What is the status of this?
Thanks!!
Good question :-)
We recently conducted a poll to gather feedback on which features our customers and the community want added to Tracmor next. The results of the survey can be seen in this thread. Unfortunately, the feature you are asking about was not high on the list. However, this does not mean we will not be adding this feature in the future. We haven't finalized our list of features for the next release yet, but when we do I will post an announcement here in the forums.
